Morgan Greenstreet

Morgan Greenstreet, the son of saxophonist Wil Greenstreet, is a young drummer and percussionist who lives in Rockland County.  Morgan is a 2011 graduate of Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts.  He holds a degree in music and studied West African drumming with Ghanaian expert Faith Conant and Jerry Kwashie Dzokoto.  He traveled to Ghana in 2010 with Chiku Awali for the performance of Yaa Asantewaa and spent three months there studying traditional drumming. In 2009, driven by his interest in Afro-Cuban music, he spent three months studying traditional and popular percussion music in Cuba. He has performed in various ensembles, including Sambalanço, a Hampshire-based community Samba batucada; Grupo Palo Santo, a Northampton, Massachusetts based Afro-Cuban folkloric dance and drum troupe lead by Miguel Periche and Brandon Marger; and he also leads his own group, which performs original music inspired by the music of West Africa and the African diaspora.
