Caleb Dowden is a Choreographer, Researcher, Dance Teacher and Dance Artist from New Orleans, Louisiana and a recent graduate of the State University of New York at Purchase with a BFA in Dance. Additionally, she is the Founder and Artistic Director of Dow-Dance, a research based African-American dance company whose mission is to place marginalized stories on stage through movement in order to celebrate African history and ancestry.
She has experiences studying in Benin, West Africa and Taipei, Taiwan, in which her dance teaching movement vocabulary is a fusion of an array of dance forms that make her teaching style unique. She is a Fulbright Fellow who will be journeying back to Benin, West Africa to form a new dance technique that is a combination of her Louisiana and African roots. Her teaching is an exploration into that fusion. She will be with Chiku Awali for the month of October and hopefully when she returns from Benin. Classes begin on Saturday, October 2, 2021. |
